Holly Cottage Meonstoke

Holly Cottage is a Grade II listed Georgian cottage dating from the early 18th century with later additions, the most prominent being a two storey extension to the rear and a flat roof dormer, also on the rear elevation. It has a long rear garden going from West to East and spanning circa 35m.

It is constructed in a traditional manner with facing brickwork, clay tiled roof and timber framed doors and windows. All materials being typical with the rural Hampshire vernacular. The rear elevation is painted brickwork.

The owners wanted a better laid-out Kitchen with Day room space which addressed and has access to the sunny rear garden and patio.

It was proposed to construct a single storey hipped roof rear extension which adjoins the existing modern two storey extension via a flat roofed glazed link, which clearly defines and logically separates this new addition to the existing structure.

This extension is designed to suggest an outbuilding subservient to the main house. To this end the walls were clad in timber overlap boarding in keeping with this idea.

This addition provides for a large, modern and bright kitchen arrangement, with integral dining/family area.

The garden area was extensively re-landscaped with new sandstone paving and timber retaining walls.
