BJP Projects were commissioned to design a live/work studio space in the rear garden of a period property in Surrey to enable the clients to spend the majority of their time working from home and eliminating the need to commute into Central London on a daily basis.
The existing variable levels and retaining walls were considered and given the limited space in the garden and the size of the live/work studio space requested it was decided to excavate the ground and construct an “underground bunker”. This allowed for a 20sqm live/work studio with minimal lose of garden space. The garden area immediately above the bunker forms a turf roof and the rest of the garden and hard landscaping were overhauled and renewed.
